WELCOME

Welcome to the website of the Bristol Civil Service TTC. We are part of the Civil Service Sports Club (CSSC), one of the largest sports organisations in the UK.

Our venue can fit 4 tables comfortably for matches and up to 6 for practice.
Current Club member numbers – 50 (3 Honorary members – Ken Simmons, Neville Stocker Snr and Aubrey Simons).

For the 2011–12 season, we have 9 teams in the BDTTA local League.

We have also entered a team for the first time in the national Senior British League.

We are located on the Filton/Horfield border, very close to the Bristol Rovers football ground in North Bristol.

Formal adult coaching is held every Friday 1930 to 2130hrs with Senior Coach, Dan Kolesnik. Open practice is on Sundays 1930 to 2200hrs.

Club/CSSC members can book the hall for table tennis during the daily opening hours of the premises or on any non-match evening at £4.00 per hour.

Although we are close to the heart of Bristol, we have good free parking.

Final of the Gilbert Belsten cup Thursday 26 April 2012

Picture

Congratulations to the Civil Service team for reaching the final of this prestigious competition. Garth Kinlocke, Dan Kolesnik and Chris Price (Chris Hansell was  injured—best wishes to him) took on the Filton team of Dean Cundy, Je Kwon Choi and Young Min Kim. Garth played magnificently and kept a cool head, winning against Dean and Je Kwon in tense and exciting matches of four and five games respectively, but sadly the Filton players proved too strong for Dan and Chris on the night. Dan seemed to be having a bit of an off night, and although he nearly clawed his way back in the third game against Je Kwon, ended on 9-11. Chris produced some spectacular shots but succumbed to the greater consistency of his  opponents. His good humour and funny remarks lightened the tense atmosphere at the end! The final result was Filton 5–Civil Service 2.

The individual results were:
1) Garth v Dean 11–7, 8–11, 11–4, 11–8
2) Dan v Je Kwon 3–11, 6–11, 9–11
3) Chris v Young Min 8–11, 3–11, 6–11
4) Garth v Je Kwon 8–11, 11–5, 11–4, 8–11, 11–8
5) Chris v Dean 8–11, 3–11, 4–11
6) Dan v Young Min 8–11, 8–11, 3–11
7) Chris v Je Kwon 5–11, 7–11, 7–11

PING! Bristol. Help needed

Ping! is coming to Bristol. Download a poster here. If you want to be involved or just find out more then drop me an email at chris.brown@etta.co.uk.

More about Ping! Bristol ….

Ping! is an exciting table tennis initiative that will be in Bristol, 29th June to 27th July 2012.

Bristol has been selected as one of three host cities for 2012 in the Olympic year along with London and Liverpool. There are 3 main elements to Ping! Bristol:

1) 25 temporary outdoor event tables will be installed in various locations from city centre open
spaces to outside museums and in the lobbies of city centre venues. Each table will have table hosts
and table minders to measure participation and supply bats and balls and be in place for the month of
July 2011.

2) Ping! Events will be run at community venues, cinemas, on the event tables etc. (Ping Parties,
DIY bat making sessions, Film Pong, Master Classes etc)

3) 10 permanent, outdoor, concrete tables will be installed in Bristol Parks with activities
throughout July as well as post Ping! encouraged.

Ping! is a national initiative, and Ping! Promote the programme as:

A street table tennis festival, which sees ping-pong tables installed
in surprising locations across a town or city; from galleries to
estates, shopping centres to parks, train stations to public squares and
even airports. Marked ‘Stop and Play’, the tables, bats and balls
are there for all to use and enjoy for FREE! To join the fun, simply
grab a bat from the side of the table and get playing. Since Ping!
launched in London in 2010, it has been an epic success.
